Early Years Learning Framework
How do we link to the Early Year Learning Frameworks Five learning goals?
1. A strong sense of identity
- Physical activity and games will help with the development of each child's personality/ character (leadership skills, independence, cooperation skills)
- Feel part of a team during the sessions (many games will require teamwork in order to deal with set problems
- By participating and enjoying the sessions will lead to a positive attitude towards physical activity (lifelong benefits)
2. Connections with their world
- The games played will be inventive, creative and imaginative (the children will be encouraged to have a large input into this)
- This will allow them to connect with the activities and the world as they see it.
- Learn to understand their role in the activities and learn how sometimes they need to be flexible
- Understand how their actions can affect themselves and their relationships with other people in their world
3. A strong sense of well being
- Fun and enjoyment will help to improve the child's mood
- Games and activities will help to develop all major body systems
- Help to develop and control emotions (these can be transferred to all other situations)
- Improved health through a more effective immune system
- Physical activity is closely linked to overall emotional well being
4. Confidence and involvement in their learning
- They will be part of the sessions and decision making process within games
- This can lead to an increase in confidence levels and a reduction in anxiety levels
- As relationships build between the coach and each child they will be able to discuss things they like/ did not like and perhaps how to find solutions
- Physical activity has been found to increase both cognitive and classroom performance
5. Effective communication skills
- By playing games where the child has to interact with the coach and other children and this will help them to learn effective communication skills
- They will be set problems where they will be encouraged to work with, learn from and help others to solve these problems
- In certain games they will play different roles and will therefore have to learn to compromise and cooperate with others through communicating with each other.
